Technician installing a graphics card into a desktop computer during a PC build

That’s it, that’s the name of my burgeoning enterprise—MarcB IT.

You may have already read here that I passed the CompTIA A+ Core 1 exam on January 29, 2025. Now I’m scheduled to take Core 2 next Friday on March 7.

Have studied a lot already, probably enough. Watching Total Seminars videos as presented by Mike Myers. but now with about a week to go for the second exam part, I’ve been utilizing CompTIA’s study guide.

Answered some right, others wrong. But the plan is should I pass March 7 exam, I’m barreling next towards CompTIA’s Network +, followed by Linux + and Security + certs.

I used to operate and maintain a Windows 2000 Server with about 30 desktop clients. Plenty to configure and troubleshoot in those days.

Now I’ve configured my own SOHO network, feature two PCs I built from the ground up with one of them hosting Windows Server 2022. Deployed an Active Directory domain as well as running a Linux VM.

I know most people probably want to read about the fate of congestion pricing in Manhattan or the possible conclusion to the end of the European conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

But I’m not a reporter anymore; rather seeking re-entry into IT. I should have stayed in IT. Many times I had to lug and schlep my video production equipment to report stories to the banks of the Hudson River on the Jersey side.

I did that too while covering politics and labor in NYC, which was more interesting than Jersey.

In fact, I had the privilege of being accompanied to the top of One World Trade Center during its construction in January 2013. The crane operator showed no visible clues of anxiety as the crane was parked nearly 1,000 feet skyward. That video story was my favorite but I did have an opportunity to interview a host of New Yorkers, too.

Like elected officials, labor reps and community leaders and community advocates. Probably the best person to see speaking, especially during a rally to gin up the building trades was its president, Gary LaBarbera, whose roaring voice from City Hall could probably be heard all the way south to Wall Street.

He had to have struck fear with big real estate interests in New York, or else he’d call a strike or work stoppage at the least.

But like I said I’m pumped for additional IT certs. I like building PCs and troubleshooting networks so that end users, like me, can get back to work!!

MarcB IT, troubleshooting all for thee!
